Restorative Yoga: Give back to your soul self...
Unwind into your weekend with deep rest in restorative yoga
You may spend most of your waking time taking care of others in one form or another. But, as the Dalai Lama said, “If you want others 2 be happy, practice compassion. If you want 2 be happy, practice compassion.” So, set aside some time to offer compassion to yourself with the self-nourishing practice of restorative yoga.
We’ll begin with a warm-up including a Qigong-inspired gentle yoga flow which can be done seated or standing. This will help us to unwind our mind and body from the week.
Then we’ll ease into restorative yoga. I describe it as “curling up with pillows and relaxing”. We’ll rest in cushioned and supported restorative yoga poses that will allow us to access the deeper layers of consciousness that yoga offers as well as soothe our nervous system into the relaxation response that is so vital to our health and well-being.
We’ll experience 2-4 restorative poses ranging from 8 - 25 minutes. One of my teachers described it as a great inroad to meditation for people who think they “can’t meditate” & a great inroad to yoga practice for people who think they “can’t do yoga”.
So offer yourself a little gift of self-care and join us on. ... please share: can the first Friday of the month work for you to restore?
Amy Stein, RYT 200 is grateful to her teachers. She studied and certified in teaching Restorative Yoga with the author of several yoga books including the first book on restorative yoga (she recently published a second book on the subject). She was so fortunate in June 2018 to assist Judith in her Kripalu restorative teacher training at the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health. She studied and certified in teaching minimal prop restorative yoga with the author of a recent restorative yoga book, Jillian Pransky. In addition to teaching restorative yoga, she loves teaching chair yoga to her groups of sweet, energetic, and adventurous seniors. She has recently developed a practice in the Chinese disciplines of Qigong and Tai Chi which parallel the practice of yoga in many ways and have deepened her practice of yoga. She sends much love and gratitude to the beautiful Kim Mackie for supporting her teaching and creating such a serene and welcoming yoga space for our community at Revelation Yoga.
